The discus is a strong and resistant type of fish that can grow up to 25 cm, and its average lifespan is ten years. However, the disc is very demanding for growing and it needs to provide ideal living conditions.
After a year, the discussions reach full maturity and couples ready for the moat are formed. For the successful laying of eggs it is necessary to provide a special aquarium (50x50x50) without lining and plants, with a soft water temperature of twenty degrees Celsius, a low level of carbonate KH <1, GH 2-3 degrees and a pH of 5.8 - 6.2, which is achieved using RO devices.
They can also be in water with different parameters, but in this case, the amount of eggs is smaller. The aquarium - the hamlet should be placed in a calm place because the discussions at the time of fertilization do not tolerate noises from the center or the surveillance of the curious "voyeurs", and it is necessary to provide them with a larger leaf or a ceramic bowl in which the egg will lay.
Take care: it's not uncommon for parents to eat eggs or offspring due to bad conditions!
When transferring the discs to a meringue, make sure to boost your diet and change the water every two days, as this will allow the couple to spawn. As soon as you notice that their skin has got a more intense color, they are pushing, you will know that they are ready for the moisture.
The female lays eggs, and the male goes behind her and fertilizes them. After that, they jointly take care of the eggs and occasionally "cheat" waving over her feathers. The process of fertilization lasts 72 hours, after which the shrimps appear on the eggs and the parents of the child move to another place where they will sail within 3 - 4 days.
Until then, mom and dad will change the color (darken), and on their bodies a nutritious mucus will form.
The cyclode of Amazon, Diskus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus), has a body in the form of a disc, from which comes the name of the fish that the aquarists consider the king of the aquarium.
They are specific because of the way they feed the young: they get on the body of a darker parent, because there are more nutritious mucus on his body and eating from him. In this way, small discus foods are eaten for ten days, after which they are further supplemented by artemia.
The most common diseases that attack these beauties are intestinal parasites and "holes in the head".
Hepatic parasites (Hexamita) - the disease is manifested by the retracted stomach and whitish mucous feces, and the fish hides around the aquarium's corners and vomits food. The parasite first attacks the digestive system, then the kidneys and the liver.
It happens that hexamite-infected disorders have no apparent symptoms for a long time, but a water quality disorder can weaken the fish and stimulate the propagation of the intestinal parasite, so the animal fails within three days. Preparations containing metronidazole are used for treatment.
Hole in the head - This disease causes a lack of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D needed for normal growth and development of fish, and the cause of the shortage of these elements is usually an inadequate and uniform diet. On the head of the fish, above the eyes, holes appear.
To treat this disease, it is best to increase the water temperature in the aquarium to 35 ˚C and dissolve the Orvagil tablets.
Discus are members of the Family Cichlidae and are sometimes referred to as “King of the Aquarium” because of their majestic beauty and regal colors. At least three species have been described, although debate continues over the validity of several assigned scientific names. Wild caught discus can be challenging to keep, due to their specialized water chemistry and dietary needs, however, most discus sold today are captive bred and are much easier to keep. That said, they are not for beginners, for a variety of reasons. Through selective breeding, numerous color varieties are available and more continue to be developed.
